The WasteMET Asia Symposium, jointly organized by WMRAS (Waste Management & Recycling Association of Singapore) and SingEX Exhibitions, took place for the 3rd time on 21st and 22nd of October. The 2-day event is the key platform for waste management and recycling industries in Asia. Under the theme “The New 3R: Reinvent, Renew, Regenerate” business leaders and entrepreneurs, researchers and technology developers, solutions providers as well as policy makers came together to discuss current trends and future challenges, developments and opportunities with an emphasis on resource regeneration, innovation and sustainable solutions.
As a sponsor of the event, Veolia attended the symposium and witnessed the formation of the new Asia Pacific Waste and Environment Alliance (APWEA). Industry associations from Singapore, China, India, Indonesia, Malaysia and the Philippines signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to form the new alliance. It will provide a platform for industries and businesses to share knowledge, expertise and best practices in the Asian region, to tackle the issues of rapid urbanization, rising waste volumes and increasingly complex types of wastes and to develop innovative, sustainable and circular solutions in the waste and recycling management industry.
Another highlight of this 2-day event was the ceremony of the Waste Management Industry Excellence Awards 2015. In total 6 awards have been given out in two categories: Most outstanding Collection Crew and Most Outstanding Frontline Operations Crew.
One award for the Most Outstanding Collection Crew has been given to Veolia’s collection team of Mr. Abdul Salam, Mr. Mat Noor and Mr. Anuar. The team has a combined work experience in Veolia of over 42 years and works together since January 2013.

The residents value their fast and competent operation, their openness to criticism and adoption of new ideas as well as their politeness and engagement. Furthermore, the team is an internal health and safety - best practice example. They meticulously put into practice Veolia’s safety standards when conducting their work and on the road.
Our nominated team joined the WasteMET Business Dinner on 22nd of October and received the award as well as a cash prize during the dinner event. This award is a very positive recognition for the team and their high engagement and commitment to date. We are proud of our winners and strive to further promote their way of conducting work among all employees.
